BARBERTON GIRLS YOUTH WINTER BASKETBALL LEAGUE
2013/14 YOUTH GIRLS BASKETBALL LEAGUE RULES
THE LEAGUE DIRECTORS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO AMEND AND/OR ADD RULES DURING THE SEASON AS THEY FEEL THE NEED.
OHSAA RULES WILL BE IN EFFECT, EXCEPT WHERE SPECIFIC LEAGUE RULES APPLY.
GENERAL INFORMATON
Admission cost each Sunday $3 Adults, $2 Seniors, $1 Students (18U), Free 5 yrs. Younger.
We reserve the right to start 10 min. early, and if both coaches agree, even earlier.
Teams need to clean up trash around bench area after their game.
Water/Gatorade only on courts, NO chewing gum.
NO Coolers, team snacks, or Fast Food is permitted in the Barberton Schools.
We will have a concession stand at both schools for fans and players.
ROSTERS
Roster limit is 12 players. Rosters are due prior to first game and addition must be Okayed by one of the Directors.
Teams must consist of players who are currently enrolled in their community’s local school district or reside in the community’s school district.
Players may be on only one roster in the league in the same grade. You may have a player play up on an older grade level. (A 5th grade girl plays on the 5th grade team, and also plays on 6th grade team would be ok).
EQUIPMENT
Teams must provide their own uniforms in the same color with numbers on the back.
We will use a 28.5" size basketball. Teams must supply their own basketballs/game ball.
GAME PLAY
Scorer’s time clock is official.
Max. Of (2) coaches on bench and (1) book/clock person (must be 15yrs old) at table at any time.
Each team must provide their own score keeper/clock person (you will have a pass for them in your packet).
Games will consist of (2) 18 min. half. Normal stop clock during the last min. of each half.
GAME PLAY
All shooting fouls until last min. of each half will be 1pt plus 1 shot on missed shot. On non-shooting fouls ball will be taken out of bounds unless the team is in the bonus, which starts at 8 team fouls. Once a team is in the 1+1 bonus they will get 1 pt. and shoot one shot. All fouls that occur during a made basket the team will get the basket (2 or 3 pts.) plus an additional point for the free throw not taken. (In other words if you shoot and make the basket and get fouled while doing so you get 3pts.)
Teams must have 5 players to start the game but can finish with less.
We will keep track of “Team Fouls Only.” No player can foul out of a game. Officials and League directors have the right to sit a player down if they feel they are taking advantage of the no foul out rule (it will last for at least 5 min. of game time.)
Teams will be allowed 5-minutes warm up before each game.
Half time will be 5 min. in length.
Teams will be given (3) 45 sec. timeouts per game and (1) in overtime period with NO carry over timeouts. No timeouts for either team if game goes into “Sudden Death”.
Foul line for 3rd/4th grade is 13 feet. Foul line for 5th & 6th is normal but 5th grade can jump across line but cannot rebound the shot.
If one team is ahead by 15 points in the 2nd half clock will continue to run other than team timeouts.
FOULS
We will keep track of “Team Fouls Only” no player can foul out of a game. Officials and League directors have the right to sit a player down if they feel they are taking advantage of the no foul out rule (it will last for of 5 min. of game time.)
Technical fouls on, players or coach/table, if they get 2 in the same game they will miss the next scheduled game.
DEFENSE
NO PRESSING and Man to Man defense must be played at all levels during the first half. Starting second half 5th & 6th grade level may press and play Man or Zone defense. The 3/4th grade level starting after a mandatory 30 sec. official time out with 4 min. to go in the game teams may press and play any type of defense full or half court. If a team is up by 15 or more points no pressing is allowed.
(1) Warning will be given (1) per team on backcourt defense (second occurrence will result in 1 pt. and ball out bounds for the offensive team).
OVERTIME
If teams are tied at the end of regulation, (1) minute overtime period will be played.
Each team gets (1) timeout no carry over timeouts.
If tied at end of overtime, we will then play sudden death with no clock and NO timeouts. First team that scores wins (must make a FT or FG.)
POOL PLAY
Tie-Breakers will be determined by:
Head to Head
If (3) teams are tied it will be determined by ( + - ) between (3) teams involved to get best team, then go back to Head to Head with other two teams for next tie breaker between those (2) teams.
Point differential, maximum of +15 points per game.
RETURN TO PLAY RULE
All teams must have a coach who has successfully passed concussion recognition training on the bench at all times. www.nfhslearn.com.
Coaches must turn in a copy of their concussion training certificate at the beginning of the season. Any Ast. Coach who becomes certified though out the season must turn in a copy of their certificate as soon as they receive it.
If there is not a coach on the bench with a valid concussion certification on file, the team must forfeit game. (+15 for other team). Coaches must provide photo ID available during these checks.
Prior to the season, coaches will be provided with information they must hand out to parents regarding the Return to Play Act.
SUSPENSIONS AND DISIPLINE PROCEDURES
Barberton Girls Basketball Program offers this league for the benefit and enjoyment of those who participate. Individuals who display poor sportsmanship ARE NOT WELCOME. Any player, coach, or fan ejected from a game for unsportsmanlike conduct, abusive language, fighting, touching officials or any other reason detrimental to league play, must leave the playing facility immediately. Failure to do so may result in team’s forfeiture of the game. Ejected players or coaches are automatically suspended from participating in the next scheduled game. Any player or coach ejected for fighting or any other reason determined by the League Director to be detrimental to the league CAN BE SUBJECT to suspension for the remainder of the season or longer. 10/17/2013
